Help Customers Achieve Goals & Maximize Advantages with Product Choices & Project Plans.
Let’s continue our extraterrestrial analogy without stereotyping Earthlings.
HERE & THERE refer to Marshall Goldsmith’s analogy in previous posts.
Some Doomtopian environmentalists focus on escaping mostly to maximize medical recovery. Leaders keep others involved by focusing on destination options.
Medical patients recognize increasing pollution hazards plus other rising health threats. “Minor” problems seemingly don’t warrant emphasis but worsening respiratory diseases interfere with travel accommodations.
Like academic majors & minors, people rank & pursue priorities mentally, physically &/or financially. Despite a respiratory major, orthopedic patients financially majored in mitigating bone & muscle issues to prepare for space-travel confinement.
Patients hoped for respiratory recovery in purified air. Recovery enables easier motions for work & exercise. Pollution inflicts major breathing problems which aggravate multiple troubles.
Sufficient health & energy support prioritized focus on achievements but obstacles erode resilience.
When medications enable deeper breaths, people might inhale more pollution. Polluters enjoy disparaging environmentalists about “imagined” ailments, but breathing disruptions impede living.
Empathy expresses customers’ importance beyond money. Empathy Example: People’s gasps/coughs interrupt productivity & confidence, so restarting is mentally/physically harder.
Stress interferes with processing self-knowledge especially when people resist harsh opinions/judgments. Distressed people are vulnerable & might absorb insults because filtering requires energy needed for functionality & situational awareness. With retailer teammates & psychological resources/links, you’ll offer advantages for whole persons.
Since Awareness/Attention/Interest/Desire/Action require scarce mental energy, advantage offers integrate into AIDA by being pertinent to members’ priorities.
In “The New Market Leaders”, Fred Wiersema addressed customer scarcity. My addition: AIDA becomes scarce as stress diminishes customers’ scarce mental energy. This makes customer integration more important because integrated customers don’t need to re-evaluate customer integrators.
Customers might require help coping with current obstacles while preparing to escape then evade hazards.
Explain Essentials so Members Grasp Integration’s Importance.
Comfort is convenient for uninjured/flexible travelers but not a luxury. Painful positions would undermine health & necessitate more exercises/stretches & physical therapies. As orthopedic problems emerge, people might not realize causes or predict full ill-effects.
Since unawareness is common, people need basic diagnostic criteria indicating whose specialized help is necessary. Introduce disruption/problem Awareness so ads qualify for niche members’ Attention, Interest, Desire & Action.
Use If/Then Clues.
Explanation Example: ‘If you often feel stiffer than before, then you might increasingly suffer from spine &/or joint micro-traumas from misalignments. When body positions & movements put longer &/or excessive pressure on anatomical parts, injuries start & expand though you seemingly do what’s normal. Despite temporary comfort, repetitive strain injuries or prolonged positions can cause inflammation from increasing pressure, maybe hours later. Traveling restricts positions & movements. Previous injuries & genetic differences alter personal space requirements.’
Specific Personal Interests Might Be Adjusted for Groups.
Though advantage offers appeal to niches/groups, customize purchases for specific personal Interests/Desires. Space-travelers might expect generic experiences because of confined settings. Blended teamwork & individualism are justified if groups honor members.
Though people have confinements/constraints, how can you collaborate on personalized liberty?
Since long-term “perfect” settings/adjustments are unlikely, how practical & affordable would individual customization be?
If practicality seems too expensive, which benefits can people afford to cut? This can be hard to determine without knowing how they’ll adapt to conditions they haven’t endured. Since people “travel” HERE to THERE for benefits, unfamiliarity is inevitable since transitions seem mandatory.
Without conclusive options, would consumers be motivated enough to purchase adaptable products without definite predictions/assurances?
Novices need advice about indispensable products. Specialists can research & describe routes to THERE based on travelers’ input shaping advice about indispensable products.
Escape Would Be Delayed If Groups Conflict.
Cooperation should mean groups augment efforts & personal priorities can converge. Specialization shouldn’t automatically outrank general concerns.
People probably agree all need/deserve safe, comfortable travel to suitable destinations. Help people agree on definitions: Thriftiness & miserliness aren’t exact synonyms. Conservation & sharing are compatible.
Should primary criteria & definitions be covered thoroughly even if less popular criteria are dropped to limit conflict?
If all criteria are used, projects could be too long & expensive. If people trade concessions, hopefully negotiators will concede minor points without demanding major concessions while debating personal versus project values.
Customers might figure preferences are necessities.
If/then questions can help people evaluate criteria. ‘If (result) is incompatible with (benefit), then could you eliminate/delay (criterion)?’ ‘Based on your budget, if (high-quality result) costs too much, would you forego (top-quality benefit) or tolerate (temporary inadequate results) while arranging financing?’ ‘If money, energy &/or time limits required replanning, then would you pursue only (top-quality benefit) & drop (1/more lower priorities)?’
Used product purchases can be low-cost, but consumers might perceive risks from deterioration or feel assured if usage demonstrates dependability.
Perceptions depend on products & purposes. Environmentalists might worry about “used” meaning imperfect or feel “used” means “proven” space-travel equipment will be dependable when failures could be fatal.
Help customers determine whether/which products to reuse/salvage to save money & reduce waste. You might need to refer customers to specialists for screening potentially outdated products to avoid unhealthy/unsafe tasks &/or results.
If used products (from high-quality manufacturers) are still durable & compatible with goals plus other components, familiarity (without bad habits) might boost productivity.
Moving parts wear-out. Cracked/corroded parts may pass half-fast checks. For health/safety matters, redoing is impractical with some products. Inspectors should know owners’ expectations & original specifications.
Without updated evaluations, familiarity might encourage excess confidence, seemingly indicating previous consistently valid skills & product specifications. Memories & applicability of observations, lessons & experiences can decline so previous practices shouldn’t be automatically repeated.
Durable products have vulnerabilities. Combined undetected weaknesses can mean project components don’t support others especially when stresses are highest. Distracted people might be injured.
Offer Example: 'Big retailers push cheap stuff & figure you'll return for replacements. Will cheap products fail between your paydays? You'll be stuck with those until you send those to landfills or recycling centers. If you pay-in-full multiple times because cheap products deteriorate quickly, are you on a payment plan or just paying multiple times? Is it sensible to expect better results from a series of cheap products? (Store) has superior products, so you can plan projects without excessively shopping for cheap-priced replacements. Consider how big retailers squeeze manufacturers for low costs & how manufacturers decrease costs with inferior materials & exploited labor in foreign factories. Do big retail inspectors really check third-world factories? (Store) consultations explore current results & realistic expectations. Let's develop your (category) goals, then check product specifications & plan your projects.'
If customers agree on projects, they commit based on goals & (conscious/subconscious) expectations. If results differ, discomfort/tension increases possibly below consciousness.
While distracted by stress, people’s unfocused efforts delay achievements. Though previous steps seem sound, is something wrong/off-target? When practical, provide pictures/videos, websites & adjusted criteria to settle customers’ concerns.
In groups, members should agree on interpretations of results & conditions. Guide customers in starting coordinated journeys which could be nonprofit projects or individual’s similar goals/expectations in comparative circumstances.
Cooperation can include monitoring & comparing product choices, implementations & step-by-step results to develop indicative or definitive practices.
Is Offer ATTRACTION Based on Price or Value?
Explain value & problem-avoidance. If people feel stuck, they might doubt traction/productivity is possible, especially when attractively-priced stuff fails.
When people are AT similar circumstances, cooperation can create TRACTION. With parallel progress in simultaneous projects, customers can keep pace & decrease struggles by comparing & coaching each other.
Related observations & experiences can reveal theories/reasons for results: ‘I thought success was close until (occurrence/obstacle).’ ‘I worked around (obstacle) with (kit) until (trouble) happened.’ ‘Let’s (action) & compare to uncover gaps & fulfillments.’
Advise members to seek guidance about comparing life factors to people’s reports. Members must determine if personal factors match niche factors. Do members realize what project readiness is & are they committed to each step? Too often, retailers commit only to profitability. Customer integrators commit to mutual value.
Doomtopians’ one-way journeys seem like endings but leave lifestyle baggage behind. As physical health declines, identities incorporate negatives. New beginnings have fewer reminders/cues of negative causes/effects. Extensive travel allows transitions & option explorations. Advanced options would add benefits/tipping points to create bigger advantages.
Specialist retailers can integrate advantages into customers’ lives as they sever negative bonds.
As environmentalists do specialized tasks, they convey progress & setbacks for learning & mutual success.
Niche Members Probably Disregard Repeated Worn-Out Words.
How do you communicate understandable values for members to fill gaps? If members are unlikely to receive/remember each detail, have you tested ad versions? Are members more responsive to all warnings about losses or eager for empowerment?
Offer Example: ‘What would empower you to (create opportunity/remedy problem)? How do you feel about underpromising & overpromising? If retailers sold high-quality products without offering guidance, it’d be overpromising. If retailers offered consultations for using cheap stuff, it’d be overpromising. (Store) offers full-value of top-quality product options, after reviewing your completed checklists & guiding your project plans while customizing kits. (Store) promises specific advantages by combining benefits based on product specifications & your current plus new skills.’
